Arthur Robert Power Jr.

 
SALEM - Arthur Robert Power Jr., 75, of 549 E. Pine Lake Road, Salem, died at 4:30 PM on Monday, April 26, 2010, at his home. He was born Sept. 24, 1934, in Streetsboro, Ohio, the son of the late Arthur and Aileen Power.

Before his retirement in 2007, Mr. Power had worked at Hunt Valve for 43 years as machinist, programmer and retired as a checker in the engineering department. 
He attended the Greenford Christian Church and was a member of the Salem Hunt Club. He attended Brady Lake Elementary School and graduated from Southeast High School (Portage County) in Edinburgh, Ohio.
His wife, Judy (Taylor) Power, whom he married May 6, 1961, survives him, along with his children, Mary Ann (Bryon) Bright of Hudson, Ohio and Tom (Chris) Power of Crystal Lake, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Bruce Rhodes officiating.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Hope Cemetery.

 
John O. Kesseg Jr.
 
June 14, 1929 - April 20, 2010
 
SALEM - John O. Kesseg Jr., age 80, of 1248 Valley Road, Salem, died at 5:02 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the Salem Community Hospital.

Mr. Kesseg was born June 14, 1929, in Canton, Ohio, the son of the late John and Margaret (Potts) Kesseg.
Before his retirement, John had worked in the Mill Room at the Eljer Company for 35? years.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #316 in Salem, and a life member of the Salem Hunting Club, Canton McKinley Rifle and Pistol Club, N.R.A., and the Ohio State Rifle and Pistol Association. He was also a retired member of the U. S. Steelworkers Union #3316 and a 20-year Grievance Committeemen for the union.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Baker) DeSellem Kesseg, whom he married April 6, 1985; a stepson, Gary (Karen) DeSellem of Leetonia; a stepdaughter, Sherri Brown of Lisbon; two brothers, Richard Kesseg of Canton and Charles Kesseg of Woodbine, N.J.; a grandson, James S. Kelly; two stepgrandsons, Neil Brown of Lisbon and Matt (Amie) DeSellem of Washingtonville, and four great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Evelyn (Shieben) Kesseg, whom he married April 2, 1948, preceded him in death May 27, 1982. Also preceding him in death were a son, John Lester Kesseg; a daughter, Kathaleen Kelley; two brothers, Virgil and James Kesseg; three sisters, Jessie Srandrietts, Ida Failer and Beulah DeLeone.
Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home.
Calling hours will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home followed by an Eagles Service at 7:30 p.m.
Burial will be at the Damascus Cemetery.

Robert Wade Iden

Robert Wade Iden, 81, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Essex I Nursing Home in Salem with his family by his side.
Iden was born Aug. 10, 1928, in Urichsville, Ohio, the son of O. Ruth and Loyal Iden.
He is survived by his second wife, Margaret; two sons, Robert II (Julie) and Rodney; six grandchildren; three step-children, Lucinda (Mark), Laura and Daniel Books; seven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen (Foltz), his parents and a brother, Lowell.
Iden was a member of the Salem Hunting Club and Ohio Gun Collectors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.
No services are scheduled at this time. A celebration of life party will be held in the near future.

Richard L. “Knobby” Greene

Richard L. "Knobby" Greene, 84, of Salem, died at 4:09 a.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Salem Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Salem, the son of the late Arnold and Verna (Fults) Greene.
Before his retirement, Mr. Greene had served as vice president of Consumers Bank in Salem. He had previously worked at the Peoples Bank in Youngstown from 1971 to 1973 and prior to that had worked at the Farmers Bank in Salem as a loan officer. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Salem and a 1944 graduate of Salem High School. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling and golf. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Knobby was a member of the Salem Hunting Club, AMVETS Post 45, VFW Post 892, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elks Lodge #305, Free and Accepted Masons Perry Lodge 185, Salem Independent Hose Club and a life member of the Western Reserve Motorcycle Club. He was past president of the Salem Shrine Club, a member of both the Youngstown Shrine Club and the Al Koran Shrine Club in Cleveland. He also was a member of the Royal Order of Jesters Court 14.
His wife, June (Chappell) Stone Greene, whom he married in 1986, preceded him in death in 1999. A son, David Greene; a brother, Carroll Greene; two sisters, Dorothy Hanner and Janice Melitschka, also preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Richard J. "Demon" (Kathy) Greene of Centerville, Ohio; a daughter, Susan (William) Pritchard of Salem; two stepdaughters, Peg (Ken) Siemer of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Mary (Gary) Miller of Salem; two stepsons, James Stone and Edward (Beckie) Stone all of Salem; seven grandchildren, four step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the First Christian Church in Salem with the Rev. Leonard Moore officiating. Full military honors provided by the Salem VFW Post 892 and the Salem AMVETS Post 45 will follow the services at the church.
Calling hours will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Monday at the church prior to the services with a Masonic service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 1645 W. Eighth St., Erie, Pa. 16505.
Arrangements were handled by Stark Memorial.

LOU EMELO

SALEM - Louis "Lou" Emelo, 87, of 782 Benton Road, Salem, died at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 at the home of his step daughter-in-law, Janet Sullivan. He was born May 19, 1922 in Phillipsburg, Pa, the son of the late Joseph and Jayne (Furlong) Emelo.

Before his retirement, Mr. Emelo had worked for the U.S. Post Office in Salem as a mail carrier in the Jennings and Ellsworth Avenue area for 32 years. He was a member of the Salem Hunting Club, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and a member and past president of the Columbiana County Archers Club.

Mr. Emelo had proudly served with the U.S. Army during WWII as a Sergeant. He landed at Normandy Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action and a Purple Heart.

His wife, Valeria A. (Serbanuta) Emelo, whom he married April 26, 1953, preceded him in death July 11, 1990.
Survivors include a step daughter-in-law, Janet Sullivan of Salem; two brothers, Cecil Emelo of Youngstown and Barry (Debbie) Emelo of Salem; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Phillip "Eddy" Sullivan; two step sisters, Amelia Gibson and Grace Laskinski; a sister, Betty Cook; and two brothers, John and Joseph Emelo.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Thom of The Threshing Floor in Lisbon. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be Grandview Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Salem V.F.W. Post 892 and the Salem AMVETS Post 45 Burial Group.
